By: Jasmin Avagyan

Diversity is present in every corner of the world. People from different cultures interact and form multiple bonds which allows globalization to be a phenomena. The ability to communicate effectively whether it be on social media or for an occupation justifies the opportunities presented to us. • Have appropriate body language

Often in this chaotic world, we find ourselves getting lost. We go on a journey to find our lost soul in midst of life.               As technology becomes more advanced, humanity seeks to find the most convenient way of life. In today’s modern world, people are driven to purchase the most up to date devices. Everyone is seen carrying the newest iPhone or the latest new trend airpods. Society sets rules and standards, and as prisoners of our contemporary culture, we abide and give in. Studies have shown that consumerism spending makes up 66% of the U.S. economy alone (1). Additionally, over the years, technology has become more directly available, fostering a materialistic society.

It is important to develop meaningful relationships by putting emphasis on moral values. We should practice kindness, honesty, and mindfulness.Yet, we thrive on outdoing each other and showcasing material possessions (2). Here are some tips to detach from material and place meaning on furthering emotional bonds:

  • Be in tune with yourself as well as with others

  • Try to be more minimalist

  • If you buy something try to give something away

  • Focus on developing deeper emotional connections

There is an intersection between how we as humans choose to interact with one another. We have the power to take our relationships and allow them to grow further. However, the way we communicate in relationships ultimately alters the destiny of it. You can chose to be the better person in the relationship by placing meaning on yourself as well as on others. There is an essence when two individuals create a bond. Learning how to best understand, listen, and work together places meaning in the other person. The self is just as important for it is the only conscious you have access to. You can chose to give meaning to the relationship you have with yourself to understand what you hope to gain from this lifetime. Placing meaning within the relationship you have with yourself is the foundation to exceeding the unknown. Often we will place value in materialistic objects because we think that the amount of money we spend reflects our inner character (3). However, if a moment is taken to reflect upon what will be left on this earth upon our end, the answer is as clear as the sky. The only thing that remains after death is the memories created. That is why the practice of minimalism can be of great use towards creating meaningful connections with other people. Instead of focusing on what to buy next, think of what you as a being can do to create trust, become harmonious, or vocal about the things that mean most to you.
